Cisco IP Phones going down when CUCM publisher is turned off

Hi all,

Quick question:

I have on my lab environment a CUCM Publisher and a CUCM Subs.

As I understand, the subscriber is only there for redundancy purposes, and the phone should be registered to the subs as opose to the pub.

All my IP phones register to the subscriber, but when I kill my publisher, all the phones are losing its registration.

Aren't they meant to be still registered?

Thanks

Geovani,

What you need to do is to use cucm group and device pool for redundancy.

SO in your cucm group you will have your subscriber first and your publish second. You will then assign this cucm group to a device pool and then assign the device pool to the phone.

Now when your subscriber is down, the phones will register to your publisher. This is only good for small deployments. For large deployments you will have multiple subscribers and you will then have first subscriber and second and third. You can only have 3 servers in a cucm group. So the phones can register to secondary and tertiary subscribers when the primary is down

Hi, thanks for your reply.

That's the way I have it set up.

On my CUCM group, I have my sub first then the pub second.

Again, all my phones have the tftp address manualy configured pointing to the sub.

If I kill the sub I will lose all the phones and they will not register to the pub. .

thanks

Geovani, is your replication in place, utils dbreplication runtimestate should show a status of 2..

Until you have your replication in place you will continue to have issues with failovers

Hi, the replication is fine, it shows 2 now.. all good there.

My CUCM group that the phones are using, has the Sub as primary and Pub as second.

Still not working.

will have my CCNA voice exam on sat, hope they don't come up with some questions on this LOL.

Thanks again

Is the CUCM service activated on your publisher

All the services on the Sub are activated and so they are on Pub

Can you check that the CUCM service is active on the publisher?

Hi, thanks for your reply again,

Yes, all the services are activated on both servers.

Thanks

Are the serves define by ip address or host names?

Can you ping the phones from the publisher?
