Cisco Phone System with external relays and sensors, DECT

Hi..

I've been scanning and reading through the cisco website and specs for 2 hours now, but can't seem to find the answers I seek.

I'm asked to see whether one can replace a Panasonic IP Phone System with a Cisco solution.. I'm quite sure that one can do, but there are a caveats: The existing Phone System makes use of external relays and sensors. I was thinking to use the AS5400 Gateway, but even for other gateways external relays or sensors are not to be found. The closest I found was the FXS cards to connect other phone systems analog.

Also, they'd like to keep using their mobile DECT phones.. didn't look into that yet, though, as I was preoccupied with the relays. Is there a way to use all the DECT antennas and include the DECT phones in the solution?

Thank you very much for reading though..

Cheers,

Thomas

You'll have to figure out the specifics of those relays. For example, I had a customer with a bunch of what they termed emergency buttons. In reality they were just analog phones that went off-hook when the button was pressed. We attached them to FXS ports and configured PLAR to whatever extension needed to be alerted of the emergency. Be specific with what you have; it's possible that someone else on the forum has encountered that before and knows the answer.

The answer for the DECT phones is largely the same: You can connect the base station (or whatever it is) to a standard telephony interface and route calls to/from it. You would hope that the DECT base station is using a digital interface such as PRI. If it does the PRI can terminate on a Cisco ISR with appropriate DSPs and a VWIC interface.

Thanks for the reply..

So... I did some digging.. the sensors are only used by a crestron device to signal some event.. depending on which sensor got triggered, an informative text is sent to a specified DECT phone. So now I was thinking, is it possible to "talk" to the CallManager via IP (from the Crestron), like sending an IP packet with the "relay-number" to a certain port and then have callmanager act upon that? I'll have to look whether Crestron can do TAPI, that would probably also work then. looking for other ways as well, though.

There's one relay needed to give power to an alarm-light when a certain number is called. Is it possible to have the AS5400 to engange a relay so the light goes on?

Talked to the Crestron guy.. seems the easiest would be to connect a Telephone Interface Module to an analog FXS..

Is it possible to do "scripting" of events? I'm thinking on the lines of: the Crestron Device calls a specific number and the Callmanager then sends a text to a specified DECT phone..

Would that be possible?

Cheers,

Thomas
