Cisco phones on Nortel switches with DHCP option 128

Hi,

we have network with Nortel switches and Nortel IP phones and we are in phase of changing the phones to Cisco. The current DHCP setting is configured with option 128 (for Nortel phones to get TFTP server and register).

We want to change Nortel phones with Cisco. The two phones will have same VLAN. My question is "can we keep option 128 during the migration phase or it will have some issues for Cisco phones?"

Another question "Can we have both Option 128 for Nortel and option 150 on the same DHCP scope or there will be any harm?"

regards,

Ibrahim

Hi,

Adding Option 150 (TFTP for Cisco Phones) will not

cause any issues for the Nortel phones.

I think you bigger problem is how the Cisco phones will discover their Voice Vlans

You will need to either use LLDP/MED ( Not all phones support this) on the Nortel switch or

manually configure the voice vlan on the Cisco phones.
