Hi Asim,

Just to add a note to the great info from Bill, Java & Jonathan (+5 each )

You need to use a programmable feature buttons for Mobility;

Feature Buttons and Softkeys

Table 7-4 provides information about some of the features that are available on softkeys, some that are available on dedicated feature buttons, and some that you need to configure as programmable feature buttons. An "X" in the table indicates that the feature is supported for the corresponding button type or softkey. Of the two button types and softkeys, only programmable feature buttons require configuration in Cisco Unified IP Phone administration.

Note The Cisco Unified IP Phone 8961, 9951, and 9971 does not use softkey templates in Cisco Unified Communications Manager administration.

For information on configuring programmable feature buttons, see the "Modifying Phone Button Templates" section.

Modifying Phone Button Templates

Phone button templates let you assign speed dials and call-handling features to programmable buttons. Call-handling features that can be assigned to buttons include Answer, Mobility, and All Calls.

Ideally, you modify templates before registering phones on the network. In this way, you can access customized phone button template options from Cisco Unified Communications Manager during registration.

To modify a phone button template, choose Device > Device Settings > Phone Button Template in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. To assign a phone button template to a phone, use the Phone Button Template field in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Phone Configuration page. Refer to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Guide and Cisco Unified Communications Manager System Guide for more information.

The default Cisco Unified IP Phone 9971 template that ships with the phone uses buttons 1 and 2 for lines.

You manage features on the 9971 using the Feature Control policy. Go to Device>Device Settings>Feature Control Policy.  Create a new policy and check the appropriate boxes. Then associate the policy to the device.

Re: Cisco unified mobility on cisco 9971

hi,

I cant see any softkey option in feature control policy and i am not able to created any softkey when the phone is on hook.

Normally in cisco 7900 series when creating the softkey the mobility is there by default we jsut need to shift it to right side and then save

any idea ?

9900/8900 series really do not use a softkey template, you cannot think of them just as another 7900 series and do the same config. As Bill mentioned, to enable or disable which softkeys are shown on the device you need to do so thru the Feature Control Policy.

This is all contained in the administration guide which should always be the 1st place to look on how to configure a device.

Configuring Feature Control Policies

You can limit the appearance of some telephony features on the  Cisco Unified IP Phone 8961, 9951, and 9971 by enabling or disabling  these features in the feature control policy configuration. When you  disable a feature in the feature control policy configuration for a  phone, you restrict the user's access to the feature and the softkeys  associated with the feature does not display on the phone.

Just to answer the Mobility piece of this: The 8900/9900 phones do not have a Mobility softkey. You need to assign this to a line button. There are something like 16 features that are softkeys on the 7900 but must be physical buttons on the 8900/9900 phones. I'm trying very hard not to turn this reply into a rant so I'll stop typing now.
