Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi,

I have a Cisco 3825 Voice Bundle Router with 2XPVDM2-64 (Total 128), I have installed 3 VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1. Now I have to configure 4 E1's but after configuring Two E1's for the third E1 the Router is giving me an error as given below:

% Not enough DSP resources available to configure ds0-group 0 on controller E1 0/1/0

% The remaining dsp resources are enough for 8 time slots.

% For current codec complexity, 1 extra dsp(s) are required to create this voice port.

While designing I made sure of PVDM's & added one more PVDM2-64.

Do I require to configure or bundle these PVDM's I am giving below my configurations for Voice-card 0 & 1.

voice-card 0

dspfarm

dsp services dspfarm

!

voice-card 1

dspfarm

dsp services dspfarm

!

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi

Each E1's configured uses 30 channels, since you have 4 already UP you are using 120 channels hence you only have 8 channels remaining from the 128 of the 2 PVDM2-64

You will need to add one more PVDM2-64 to configure the other 2 E1's

DSP calculator can show you more details

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi,

What do you see with 'show diag' command in your router?

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

If you're not using a low-complexity codec you might need more DSPs. If you're using G.729, faxing, G.722 or a number of other codecs, there's a good chance it would require more DSPs.

'show voice dsp group all' is an excellent command for showing your DSP resources.

Check out your requirements in the DSP calculator, and make sure you determine your codec requirements correctly:

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi

If you added dsp services dspfarm is because you added also dspfarm profiles, which consume dsp resources as well.

The two pvdm2-64 should be enough even for 4 E1's so it must be dspfarm profiles consuming them.

send sh run to check your config or if you have dspfarm profiles (and don't use them) delete them.

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi,

I have attached the output from my VG. I have Included, sh run, sh ver, sh diag, sh voice dsp, show voice dsp group all.

I hope this all will be enough for the Root cause.

Thanks alot.

Re: Configuring E1 Ports & PVDM

Hi,

As a rule of thumb always consider One PVDM2-64 for 2 E1s.

Now you have 6 E1's hence you need to have three numbers of PVDM2-64.

As pointed by Pedro, since you have 2 PVDM2-64 you'll be able to configure 4 E1 interfaces. Any additional e1 will call for additional PVDM.
