Hi I'm new to Cisco stuff and was just recently hired (lone system admin/IT staff in the company), Im a fresh graduate and this is my first hands on eperience on cisco devices, sadly the previous system admin left no network documentations, the network has 1 x 2801 router (I gained access by resetting the password) 1 x sf300-24p switch ( I cant access this because the console cable and IP address of the switch are missing) and 5x 7942g IP phones, the network is working fine as it is now I want to be prepared in case something happens to the config in the sf300, so how do you configure VOIP phones in the sf300? are they plug and play? or does it need special configurations? thanks and please bear with my inexperience. Godbless

Hi

300 series switch support voice vlan concept so you will have to configure voice vlan and data vlan related configuraiton in this switch. Other configuration is pretty much not related to VOIP.

so basically if I reset the switch to factory defaults, and lets say the IP phones are

int range fa0/1-5

switchport mode access

switchport access vlan  10 (my default and internet vlan)

switchport voice vlan 20 (my voice vlan)

so after that its all set?

Hi,

Yes if you donot want QOS, POE etc feature this is minimum what is required.

thanks I was intimidated by the settings on 2801 that's why I was worrying on the switch side also because these were not discussed on my CCNA classes.
