Configuring VWIC-1MFT-E1 on 2621XM router

I have a VWIC-1MFT-E1 in wic slot 1 of a 2621xm router running cisco IOS 12.4(17).

However I cannot confiure my pri-group under controller e1 command.

I cannot also do a show isdn status command.

Is there something I need to turn on?

Please assist.

Hi,

You need DSP to configure card as PRI, and you don't have that.

You would need AIM-VOICE-30 that is a card that goes inside the router, or an NM-HD-xxx to host the VWIC. The first alternative is probably cheaper. The second one, when acquiring a network module supporting the latest generation DSP called PVDM2, would give you more feature and a longer technological lifespan.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

You will probably find that you have not specified the card type.

Configure the card as follows, specifying the appropriate slot and wic of course:-

card type e1 1 1 (Slot/WIC)

HTH

Regards

Allan.

I cannot seem to configure the card type. Under config it does not allow me to do that.

In sh run it shows controller e1 0/0

Typically if the card-type is configured you will see the controller E1 in the configuration. If it was not configured, then there would be no controller.

Is there already a PRI group configured under the controller? Shutdown the controller remove the pri-group and reconfigure.

Pls post the config, and show diag to sanity check.

Allan.

Firstly your configuration indicates that you are configuring your E1 through MGCP, therefore have you configured the gateway endpoint accordingly within CallManager, and also in the correct slot?

Looking at the 'show diag' I would expect to see controller 0/1 Slot 0 WIC 1.

How have you configured the gateway with hostname or IP address. I have noticed that have not configured a domain-name on the gateway, therefore ensure that if you use hostname for the gateway that you only use NSC_CITY_VG, and the CCM and resolve this.

If you have configured the endpoint correctly then I would expect CallManager to configured the pri-group. However are you attempting to reconfigure the pri-group as you have a fractional E1?

If this is not the case then try the following to download the config from CCM:-

1. remove all ccm-manager related commands.

2. configure 'network-clock-particpate wic 0'

3. reconfigure ccm-manager commands.

Allan.

Nice spot pbevilacqua, completely overlooked that aspect on the 'show diag'

Regards

Allan.

Thanks, I found out that My router did not have an AIM module on it. I assumed this would normally ship with it.

I was wondering if there is a slot on the router where the AIM-Voice-30 card goes into?

Take a look at the following link, it describes the various AIM cards supported, including the AIM-Voice-30.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2641/products_data_sheet09186a0080088753.html

You see that it is a daughter card installed internally on the hardware platform.

Regards

Allan.

Hi Allan,

there is no "card type" command for VWIC-xMFT-xx hardware, that is natively T1 or E1 depending on the version purchased.

The command is available for VWIC-xMFT-xx cards that are "universal".

Fat fingers, I meant

The command is available for VWIC2-xMFT-xx cards that are "universal".

Thanks for the nice rating and good luck!
