Hi All,
We have 40 no's of CP-6921 with firmware 8.5.1.66.22 which were not used since 2010. Now we are trying to use them and we are not able to upgrade the firmware to 9.3.1.2 as our CUCM version is 8.6.2a SU3. Can anyone kindly suggest whether there are any hops to upgrade from 8.5.1.66.22 to 9.3.1.2. If so then the exact hops and the procedure to upgrade the firmware.
Regards
Sankar.

Hi,
Installing a device pack will not solve this.
The problem is that you have a 8.5x FW and 9.3x FW can be upgraded ONLY from 9.x FW, you can check this on the release notes:
QUOTE:
"Upgrade Notes
Direct upgrades, using signed load files, are supported to firmware releases 9.3(1) from 9.x."
Also note:
"Direct upgrade from firmware release 9.0(x) to 9.3(1) is supported. After you upgrade from an earlier firmware release to 9.3(1) and for subsequent firmware releases, you can upgrade or downgrade only to signed firmware releases. "
So what you need to do is to go to 9.0 or 9.1.1 first then 9.3x,
RN for FW 9.0.2
"Installation Upgrade Notes
Direct upgrades, using unsigned load files, are supported from firmware release 8.5(4) to 9.0(2). You can use the following firmware release file for these direct upgrades:
cmterm-6921_6941_6961-sccp.9-0-2-0-uns.cop.sgn"
RN for FW 9.1.1
"Installation Upgrade Notes
Direct upgrades, using unsigned load files, are supported to firmware releases 8.5, 9.0(x), and 9.1(1)."
If this helps please rate.

Hi Christian,
Thanks for guidance.
So, we should follow the path 8.5 ---9.0(2) signed---device PACK -----9.3(3)SR1 signed.

Hi,
The device pack is not necesary, but that should include that 9.3 FW, so that is fine.
If this helps please rate.

Hi Christian,
thanks for reply[+5]
I was just going through release notes of 9.3(3)SR1 which says that before deploying 9.3(3)SR1 firmware , Call manager must be updated to latest Device Pack.

Hi,
I recommend you to use CUCM, using a TFTP server is not an officially supported method, if you decide to go that way I found these: (make sure to download the zip file)

Packet capture from the back of the phone so we can look into the firmware upgrade process and see when it fails.
