Hi guys, I have a CUCM 6.1 and a Cisco Unity and I want to integrate the CUPC for some users for video calls, chat and voice mail access.

1. Just to be sure, to make this works, Do I need a Cisco Presence Server?

2. CUCM 6.0 has a built-in Presence feature, so Can I configure the CUPC for my users using this feature?

Thanks a lot

David.

Required Servers

The following servers are required for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator operation:

•Cisco Unified Communications Manager is installed in your network and configured to handle call processing and point to point video. It provides Cisco Unified IP Phone control through the Cisco Unified Communications Manager computer telephony interface (CTI). For Cisco Unified Communications Manager details, see the following URL:

•Cisco Unified Presence is installed and is operational. This server provides the Cisco Unified Personal Communicator client configuration and presence information. For Cisco Unified Presence details, see the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6837/tsd_products_support_series_home.html

•LDAP server version 3

Hi guys, thanks for your help, this last one about CUPS lisence please:

I have 300 users for CUPC, so:

UPC7-CLIENT-LIC license will be 300

CUP-SERVER-LIC "Cisco Unified Presence User License"?, is the license for the users that use the CUPC to?

Thanks a lot again

David.

I do not handle PNs but you do need 2 licenses:

License File Requirements

For Cisco Unified Presence, you must obtain and upload the following two license files:

•Server license-The server license covers the Cisco Unified Presence nodes and provides service activation for the Presence Engine and Proxy services. The server License is loaded on the Cisco Unified Presence server.

•End-User license-The end-user license covers Cisco Unified Presence and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator users. The end-user license is loaded on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Publisher server.

Hi Jaime,

You know perhaps where can I get end user licenses? I have NFR kit with presence included. Server licenses were automatically uploaded, but all the users taken from CUCM are unlicensed. I think they should also be somewhere included.

Any ideas?

thx,

1. You will need a presence server.

2. You cannot user CUPC except with presence.

Bottom line is that you need Presence to use CUPC.

Please rate if this helps.

Its pretty sure that CUPC needs presence server as the users in CUPC log into presence not to CUCM

But from where u got the inf that cucm having built in presence inf??

Hi Eldho, thanks for your mail, I write that because in the CUCM I can configure a native presence feature such as:

-Presence-enabled speed dials.

-Presence policy feature.

All the best

David

that's just for basic BLF like presence, you can also enable it for call lists

Hi David,

In case you don't have and need a good reference to know how to deploy and troubleshoot CUPS and CUPC, buy a copy of "Deploying Cisco Unified Presence" book, by HouTong Luo (Michael).

Best regards,

- Adrián.

Thanks Adrian, nice information.

All the best.

David
