CUCM 8.5 Publisher is Down, No Changes Allowed to Subscriber

Hello Community,

Due to a power outage, the CUCM Publisher does not even respond to a ping. Almost 80% percent of the phones (7911, 7945 and 7975) are now registered to the Subscriber of the cluster, however when I try to make some changes on registered phones via the Subscriber administration page I get the following errors:

  • Place a Call Forward on the Directory Number:

"Error occurred while retrieving information from database. java.sql.SQLException: No DELETE permission for numplan."

  • Add a New Device Manually

"Add failed. The Insert privilege is required for this operation."

  • Delete a Device

Delete failed. No DELETE permission for device.

I believe this is not normal, any comments on the above?

Many thanks in advance,

George

Hi

Yes, it's normal.

CUCM uses one-way replication (pub to subscriber) for configuration, you'll need to restore your publisher to full service before you are able to make changes.

Hi,

In addition to what Mr. Aaron has said, you can do changes related to UFF [user facing features] features when Pub is down.

Below is a list of user facing features that can be updated by the subscriber and therefore updated while the publisher is down.

User Facing Features

Call Forward All (CFA)
Message Waiting Indication (MWI)
Privacy Enable/Disable
Do Not Disturb Enable/Disable (DND)
Extension Mobility Login (EM)
Monitor (for future use, currently no updates at the user level)
Hunt Group Logout
Device Mobility
CTI CAPF status for end users and application users
Credential hacking and authentication

Hi All

As I know this behaviour is going to change from CUCM 10.x, from the 10.x Subscribers are also going to get Read Write access, please correct if I'm wrong.

Hi Fernando,

It is hard to say for the product which is still not launched.Had there been some documentation available, would have said.

Thank you all for your comments and quick responses.

Hi,

thanks for the rating.

I was just reading Avaya  where this feature is available called as ESS[enterprise survivable servers ] where u can make changes in case of main server down. When main servers come UP, the changes made are not replicated back to main server. This too depends on Hardwares.

Hello ,

I have a smiliar issue. I reinstalled my publisher due to some technical issues . The subscriber has all the registered phones and other configs. However, all the effort in adding subscriber to the group proves abortive. The dbreplication is running

can some one help

Can you generate new db replication report from unified reporting and upload it. Also what error you get while adding? Have you installed with same version.

Yes, I have installed with the same version. I created a cucm-lab as the
CUCM group name..i can only see the publisher as the only available call
manager.
On the Subscriber, am seeing the cucm-lab group name with the two call
manager appearing. The call manager is showing 52 devices associated. I
believe this is the old one. I wanted to delete the old publisher from the
subscriber but the error says 'no delete permission...'
I used the same ip address and hostname of the old publisher. I have issued
the command 'dbreplication reset all'. No error. The dbreplication status
command shows the 3 nodes, publisher, subscriber and im and presence
server, authenticated.
I will generate the report and attach later

Thank you so much for giving me the idea of unified database reporting. I
saw some errors like rhost files not found. I restarted the Cisco dB
service. I also deleted the subscriber from the publisher Admin page and re
added it after I have issued this command in the publisher cli
Utils disaster_recovery prepare restore pub_from_sub
