CUCM 9 ELM license issue om backup VM

Hi

I have two CUCM 9.1.1 clusters up and running just fine. They are running on ESXi 5.0 (or maybe it was 5.1 but it doesnt make any difference).

I have, of course, taken a copy of the VMs containing the CUCMs.

When i install/copy the copy onto a new UCS with ESXi 5.0 they copy over to the new ESXi and starts just fine. How ever the license is set to demo mode for some reason.

The license mac is the same as in production. The licenses are the same as in production (shown when using "license diagnose file capability"). When logging onto GUI of ELM the licenses shown in "license diagnose file capability) just isnt there.

I have tried "license client reset registration" on all CUCM and then deleting the CUCM instance in ELM and then readding it. It still runs in demo mode.

It is a copy of the VM in production so everything, except the UCS, it the same. As fare as i can read from this document ut should work:

Did you hard code the MAC address of the ELM server in vmware per release notes? What MAC address did you assign?

But of course use the same MAC address on both Production and the copy?

Symptom:
ELM licenses are centric to eth0 MAC address of ELM virtual machine server. If MAC address changes , licenses become invalid.


Conditions:
When ELM virtual machine is deployed using OVA file, its MAC address is set to "automatic" by default. , VMware does not guarantee that virtual machine will have the same MAC address every time it is powered on as explained in this Vmware knowledge base article.

Following cases may change the eth0 MAC address of the ELM server:
# Restore of ELM server after disaster
# Application fails on ELM and needs to be restored on the same server
# Normal operation like moving VM from one subnet to another



Workaround:
1. The document will state that a static MAC should be used instead of a dynamic MAC.
2. If the customer does setup as a dynamic MAC, then the customer needs to contact Cisco via email and get new licenses (re-issued) by returning old ones in and getting new ones every time the MAC address changes
