cucm os hotfix

I need to know are there any prerequisites in applying security patches, like SR release etc. i did not find any release notes or readme files for the following hotfix of Call Manager 4.3 OS ver 2003.1.2a

If you are installing the patch executable only onto the current OS: win-K9-MS10-030-Windows2003-KB978542.exe - then you are good to go.

However, if you are installing OS upgrade which is a cumulative version of all previous patches and SR's: win-OS-Upgrade-K9.2003-1-5a-sr7.exe - then you need to meet the minimum pre-requisites listed in the tables below the info on the current vulnerabilties.  In your case, your OS is outdated so you should get to the latest version of  2003-1-5a and then patch appropriately to get to the latest SR for that train.  So, if you look at the second table - you can upgrade directly to 1.5a since you are on 1.2a.  Then you can apply the SR once the base 1.5a release is installed.

Thanx alot for your detailed explanation. I've planned os upgradation later but can i straight away apply the hotfix KB978542.exe.

Yes, you can apply it now.  I recommend at least checking the Technet site (Microsoft) to see if there are any pre-req's that you need to install as well.  If so, you'll need to look for the additional patches from Cisco via the links I already sent you and apply them in order.
