Hi Clark,
I agree with my friend Carlo here (+5 )
So my first thought would be to upgrade the manager phone to a
model that has more line buttons and can support a really easy 5
speed-dial buttons with labels etc. But managers hate to spend money $$
and they are generally unreasonable to boot so we'll look at plan B
You can use Abbreviated Dials (as Carlo nicely noted) that do not use a Line Button
The Speed Dials that are configured by the User via ccmuser are associated with spare Line Buttons (if any are available)and the remainder are accessed via the AbbrDial Softkey (Abbreviated Dial)
In this test scenario the 7962 has a Button Template called 3-Line 3-Speeddial so the first 3 that are setup via ccmuser take Line Button 4,5 and 6. The remainder are accessed by keeping the Handset On-Hook, dialing the applicable Speed Dial Code (for example 5 followed by pressing the AbbrDial Softkey) the number programmed against Speed Dial 5 will then be called;
The following options are available for SEP00170EEE2F88 (Test Q335):
Forward all calls to a different number
Add/Update your Speed Dials
Configure your Cisco IP Phone Services
Configure your Cisco Personal Address Book
Change the Message Waiting Lamp policy for your phone
Change the Ring Settings for your phone
Change the Locale for this phone
Change the Locale for these web pages
Change your Password
Change your PIN
Add/Update Your Speed Dials
Configure the Speed Dial Buttons for your Cisco 7961 (SEP00170EEE2F88)
Use this page to enter the phone numbers you want associated with each of your Speed Dial buttons. When you are done, click Update.
You'll like want to fire this up as well to appease the manager
Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing
Cisco Unified Communications Manager release 7.1(2) (firmware 8.5(2)) introduces Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing. The user can initiate Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing while conferencing a call, while transferring a call, or while placing a new call after putting a call on hold.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note The phone must be assigned a softkey set that includes the AbbrDial softkey before it can be used. The softkey can be assigned by using the Softkey Template Configuration for the following states-Offhook, Offhook with Feature, and Digits After First.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following Cisco Unified IP Phones (SCCP and SIP) support Off-Hook Abbreviated Dialing:
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7975G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7971G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7965G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7962G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7945G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7942G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7931G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7906G
Cheers!

Hi.
You can also dial the abbreviate dial number, without going offhook, just press the abbreviated dial numer as Aman suggested and press AbbrDial softkey.
The phone will then activate the speakerphone dialing the number defined on that Abbreviated dial ID.

Hi Clark.
As alternative to Speed dial, you can consider Abbreviated Dialing option.
You can configure them on Speed Dial section of phone configuration Page.
What he should do is press the number of configured Abbreviated dial number and press AbbrDial softkey on the phone
For personal address book, you can use the personal address book.

Hi Clark,
have u created softkey template : Standard User as Abbreviated Dial
In SoftKey Template configuration, have u selected
a. Select a Call State to Configure as OFF-HOOK with select keys as Abbreviated DIal
b. Select A Call State to Configure : Digits after First with Select Keys as Abbreviated Dial
c. Select a Call State to Configure :OffHook with Feature with Select Keys as Abbreviated Dial
After that have u applied, Standard Softkey template to the desired phone.
please cross-check.

aman
