Default Voice GW codec selection

What determines what codec is chosen when a called is placed out the PSTN.

the PSTN only handles PCM so there is really no choice, that's why when you make a call it uses a DS0 which are 64 kbps. it uses G711

Hi,

As mentioned correctly by Javalenc, G.711 is always used for PSTN calls - 64Kbps consuming one channel for each call.

In addition to above, if you're after the used codec between the endpoint (IP Phone) and VoiceGateway (VG) (on your LAN/WAN), the Region setting of the Phone and VG in CallManager *and* configuration on your VG(codec class) determines the used codec.
