DID's config into a 2811 router to work with a fax server

charlotterob
Level 1
Level 1

we have several dial-peer voip already config into our router. although what i dont really understand is the following issue.

we have a block of did's already config into the 2811 for example they start with 12374420XX and 12374424XX

voice-port 0/2/3

description FAX-3 1237442039 via PORT5

station-id name ABC company

station-id number 1237442039

caller-id enable

!

dial-peer voice 14 voip

preference 1

destination-pattern 24..

session target ipv4:192.168.10.11

incoming called-number 6T

dtmf-relay h245-signal

codec g711ulaw

fax rate 14400

fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback cisco

!

Now telco have assigned us with another blocks of did but they are not in the 123-744-XXXX these new did's are now 123-567-XXXX, my question is since the prefix have changed is the isdn call will be able to pass thru if i configure a dial peer such as the one already config into the router, ?

Thank you for your help

Hi, from what you told me, the new DIDs do not overlap the previous one. I think the destination-pattern I suggested before is specific enough to send only the right calls to the fax server, because it doesn't look at the first digit only, but also at the second. And, the original DID block starts with 20 and so is defined in destination-pattern.

Hi Charlotte,

Good question. Perhaps the first digit of the new block will be different, that is you are receiving four digits but meaningful ones are only the rightmost two or three.

well before i go into the 2811 and set up a new dial-peer i just want to know how am I going to do this since 123 XXX -9999 is different "XXX" than the ones are assigned to us.

Now can i just create a new dial-peer voip 18 with the new config?

Would this cause any problems in the incoming calls ?

Thank you again paolo

Well is not clear to me in what the new DID block will be different if they are sending only four digits ? For example if the four digitas of the new block all start with 25 the change destination-pattern of the current DP to CCM would be 2[45]..

Ask you telco about the exact definition of all the numbers assigned.

ok we have several blocks of did's configured alredy into the 2811

So as you see here in dial-peer voip 14, those calls are routed 192.168.10.11 which is the fax server. but the prefix is the same 123-944-24XX, so i can copy the same thing into for example dial-peer 18 same 192.168.10.11, but the block of dids that telco have give me this time is

123-405-1955 thru 1999

123-405-2370 thru 2398

123-405-2334 thru 2339

Signaling type (loop or ground): ISDN NI2

So as you see above it went from 123-944-XXXX to 123-405-XXXX ?...i wonder if is going to casue any problems, also how can i do this or configure this new set of did's into the 2811

thank you very much for your help. if you need anything let me, not only you are helping me but i am learning a lot with you

thanx again paolo

Hi,

123-405-1955 thru 1999

123-405-2370 thru 2398

123-405-2334 thru 2339

Now I don't know the impact of these on the your CM and extensions, but you can either add more DP to send call to the CM, or aggregate in one only:

destination-pattern [12][39]..

session-target xx.xx.xx.xx

of course if you have the fax/fxs dialpeer fully specified these will have precedence on the above.

destination-pattern 2339

port x/y/z

So the prefix 123[405]19XX will not affect the current configuration?. I mean the other prefix was 123 [944].

But according to the 2811 config that you have seen what will be the best route you will take to configure this did's and the commands you will use.

So will set the destination-pattern first or the dial-peer.

Well you can have:

dial-peer voice 10 voip

destination-pattern [124][39]..

session target ipv4:10.0.0.5

And that will send to CM any called that has first digit 1,2 or 4, second digit 3 or 9. That encompasses all your DID for now. You can make the destination-pattern less restrictive if you want.

Repeat this for less preference DP that goes to redundant CM. Number in square brackets are lists or range of digits, dot matches any digit.

The other DPs with pattern 20.. etc will become unnecessary and can be removed.

Well dial-peer voice 10 voip, already exists

dial-peer voice 10 voip

preference 1

destination-pattern 20..

progress_ind setup enable 3

voice-class codec 100

session target ipv4:10.0.0.5

dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric

no vad

and I am trying to send the new did's to the fax server, so i would have replace the IP of the CM for the IP of the fax server in this case?..also the problem here is that the new set of block of did's the prefix is different, now let me ask you a question does the prefix means something to the router? for example

[123]405-XXXX

123=the area code

405=the prefix

XXXX=duffix

before all my did's were 123-944-xxxx meaning that the prefix was 944 now they have changed to 405 instead, now according to my dial-peer voice rules and destination-patterns that i see on the router all those are for 123-944-xxxx range?, unless i am wrong correct me please if i am missing something

Charlotte remember telco is sending four digits only. The router does not see the proceeding six digits. They number is irrelevant in router configuration

So all you have to do is to configure your DP based on that, pattern of last four digits.

Telco has gave you DID so they are unique.

The fun part may come when you want to originate calls and need calling number of 10 digits to show correct caller-id. You will to manipulate the "prefix" according to the calling extension... I guess we will talk about that another time :)

Ok what i dont understand is why telco only is sending 4 digits instead of all of them is this a normal practice for telco's?..if something goes wrong with me creating the new dial-peer and dial pattern do you think it will affect the normal call processing ? if something does go wrong how can i fixed? deleting the new dial-peer will do it?..oh yeah also how much would you charge me to give me some cisco lessons ? well i think you really know what re you doing so who else better than you, specially i would like to more about cisco ios and router configuration, thank you again for your time

Good morning again.

Why telco sends 4 digits only, you should ask them :)

Jokes apart, I've noticed that in north-america is common practice to send the DID digtis only, maybe as historical practice from analog DID, while other countries sends the full number.

If you mess-up things, changing back the configuration to what was before will fix. Often getting the right configuration is a bit of trial and error.

I cannot charge you anything Charlotte. If you want more advice you can use the email address that is in my profile (click the name).

Perhaps, buy a Cisco press book instead. I appreciate very much the nice words from you and others, good luck!

Paolo,

Well since i want to be really carefull with this did's configuration. Instead of creating another dial-peer voip 10, can i create for example a dial-peer voip 18 and a dial-peer voip 19 with the following configuration.

Now the fax server ip is 192.168.10.11 and the new set of dids are as follows

350-405-1955 thru 1999

350-405-2370 thru 2398

350-405-2334 thru 2339

Here is what i would do

dial-peer voice 18 voip

preference 1

destination-pattern [350][405]19..

session target ipv4:192.168.10.11

incoming called-number 6T

dtmf-relay h245-signal

codec g711ulaw

fax rate 14400

fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback cisco

dial-peer voice 18 voip

preference 1

destination-pattern [350][405]23..

session target ipv4:192.168.10.11

incoming called-number 6T

dtmf-relay h245-signal

codec g711ulaw

fax rate 14400

fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback cisco

If I am not mistaken this config will forward all dids to the fax server Do you think this will do it?

thank you again for your time
