I am making a project for some hotel. I have 27 vg224 and 2 2911. I want to know the difference between both because both are gateways. I just understand tha vg224 is use to add station devices and 2911 for outside to as pstn or wan link. But i want to know that will i need to add all 27 vg224 to my cucm server. And i am going to make voice network for only one site. will that good to use mgcp rather than sip.

Hi

You are correct. VGs have FXS ports and are used to connect analog devices. 2911 are voice gateway which can be used to connect FXO/ FXS/BRI/PRI line and can be used to regester IP phones also.

Yes you will have to add all 27 VG224. You can add them as SCCP or MGCP device.

Protocol supported by VG are

Hi,

If you want PSTN connectivity by BRI or PRI, you will need E1 VWIC cards. If your service provider gives SIP trunk facility you need SIP connectivity to service provider via ip interface.

Below thread has most of the difference of MGCP vs SCCP for VG224.
