The main difference between the 7940G/7960G and the 7941G/7961G are the "backlit" line keys and upgraded displays that are on the newer 7941G/7961G and not on the 7940G/7960G. The huge difference, which you cannot see is the additinal memory in the new generation phones which will allow you to run new CM features bundled in CM 6.X. Even though Cisco is still selling 7940/60, look for them to become absolete in the adaptation of CM 6.X. They basically have no more memeory to handle anything more, i.e. recording, intercom, etc.
