Disable Chat in CUPC

Is there a way to disable the chat feature within version 8 of Cisco Personal Communicator (CUPC)? If so, can this be done on a individual user? My customer isn't ready to take on the management of Chat sessions but still would like to give the ability to the user to click to call and view presence.

Hello there,

Currently there is no way to disable chat for CUPC 8.x users.

There is an defect open for this and the fix is expected in CUPS 8.0(5).

I opened a TAC case regarding this.  An acceptable workaround is to perform the following.

SSH into Presence or log on to the console and enter the following command.

utils service stop Cisco UP XCP Text Conference Manager

Chat will no longer function, however, the menu item is still valid.  Users will receive a "cannot send your message at this time" message.

I tried this but I am still able to chat. is there something I can check?

I spoke too soon.  It is still possible to chat even after disabling this service (as I also discovered).  Sorry for the incorrect info - If you figure this one out, please share!
