DND (Softkeys)

Hi there,

people told me that in Nortel Phones, they have a DND key, so when they want all calls goes directly to the voicemail, users press DND.

Is there this softkey in CM4.2 ? I did not find it in Softkey Templates.

Thanks.

Andrei.

Hi Andrei,

I have worked with Nortel systems for many years and have not seen that type of DND feature (but it could be in the newest releases :)

In the Cisco world Do Not Disturb or DND was not added until the CUCM 6.x release, so it's not available at all in CCM 4.2. I guess, more importantly, DND does not work this way in CCM. The DND activation only silences the IP Phone Ringer and does not forward the call to VM **directly. The call will still follow the Call Forward No Answer setting to go to VM after X number of rings. Here is a breakdown;

The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature allows you to turn off the ringer for an incoming call. When DND is enabled, you can also choose to have the Cisco Unified IP Phone beep or flash to indicate an incoming call. Users can configure DND directly from their Cisco Unified IP Phone or from the User Option web pages.

When DND is enabled, all new incoming calls with normal priority will honor the DND settings for the device. High-priority calls, such as Cisco Emergency Responder (CER) calls or calls with Multi-Level Precedence & Preemption (MLPP), will ring on the device. Also, when you enable DND, the Auto Answer feature gets disabled.

The user can enable and disable DND by any of the following methods:

•Softkey

•Feature Line Key

•Cisco Unified Communications Manager User Option pages

The system administrator can also enable and disable DND on a per-phone basis in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration.

When you enable DND, the Cisco Unified IP Phone displays the message Do Not Disturb is active. The DND line button icon also turns into an empty circle, and the light turns amber when DND is active.

Incoming Call Alert Settings

DND incoming call alert settings determine how the incoming call alert gets presented to the user when DND Ringer Off is enabled. The following list gives the available options:

•Disable-This option disables both beep and flash notifications of a call, but incoming call information still gets displayed.

•Beep Only-For an incoming call, this option causes the Cisco Unified IP Phone to play a beep tone only.

•Flash Only-For an incoming call, this option causes the Cisco Unified IP Phone to display a flash alert only.

You can configure DND Incoming Call Alert on a per-device basis and also configure it on the Common Phone Profile window for group settings. If you do not set up the configuration at the device level, the Common Phone Profile settings get used.

In most cases, if users want their calls to go directly to VM without ringing their phone, they can use the "two button" approach.

1. Press CFWDALL Softkey

2. Press the Message Button (Envelope icon)

Hope this helps!

Andrei,

I resposne to Robs excellent answer the other option you could try which is available on 4.2 is the Immediate Divert softkey, or iDivert.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/4_2_1/ccmfeat/fsimmdiv.html

Only drawback is your phone will ring and when you hit the idivert the user will know you have bounced them to voicemail. So if you donw want them to know then Robs suggestion of CallForward All to voicemail is the solution more related to the DND.

Thanks

Paul

One add-on to Rob's response: UCM now has a "DND Call Reject" option. When it is enabled, it does not alert on the phone at all and immediately follows the CFB settings. This is only available in newer (7.0+ I believe) versions of UCM though.

DND Call Reject Behavior: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/7_0_1/ccmfeat/fsdnd.html#wp1073696

You can configure this behavior on at least the device and common phone profile.

If you set the DND behavior to Call Reject and set the Call Forward Busy to Voice Mail, this would achieve what you wanted in "one button."

Both were great answers, thanks a lot !

Andrei.
