Do the 3750X series switches support Cisco Prestandard POE?

Specifically, can I use 7960 and 7940 Cisco phones with a WS-3750X-48PF-S model switch and the switch provide POE to the phones?

Hi Karl,

Yes, These switches are backwards compatible and support Cisco Pre-standard PoE

I have 7940's and 7960's connected to a 3750 in the lab where I am sitting right now

Cheers!

Rob

While neither the 3750E or 3750X data sheets include mention of prestandard PoE support (only the original 3750 models mention it), other documentation still states support for it.

PoE+ Port Connections

The 10/100/1000 PoE ports have the same autonegotiation settings and cabling requirements that are described in the "10/100/1000 Ethernet Port Connections" section. These ports can provide PoE or PoE+ inline power.

PoE inline power supports devices compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard, as well as prestandard Cisco IP Phones and Cisco Aironet Access Points. Each port can deliver up to 15.4 W of PoE.

PoE+ inline power supports devices compliant with the IEEE 802.3at standard, by delivering up to 30 W of PoE+ power per port to all switch ports.

Rob,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Just to clarify are you using the new 3750X series?  I too have many deploymnets with 3750 switches, but I was curious if the new 3750 X series also supports PreStandard.

Thanks.

Thanks Jonathan.  That was the one document that

I dd not look at.  Thanks for the quick reply.
