Hi
I have a bunch of Cisco 7965 handsets running Version 9-2-3. For various reasons i'd like these handsets to downgrade to version 8.
The build version of the handset i'm working on is V11 (also have cisco 7942 on V14 with the same issue)
Does anyone know how to downgrade firmware on handsets that are not the new hardware version stated in the link below.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Hi Ben,
Have you tried uploading firmware version 8-5-2S on TFTP server and specifying the same load name under 'Phone Load name' on the Phone configuration page of 7965. Restart the TFTP service and reset the phone and see if it works or throws up any errors.

Hi Ben,
Go as per Manish suggestion , since as per the link mentioned by you
7965 G Phones manufactured with hardware versions 13.0 /higher must run Firmware Release 9.3(1)SR1 or later. The phone firmware does not allow the phone to be downgraded to releases earlier than Release 9.3(1)SR1.
In your case,it is V11 for 7965G
for 7942 , it is 15.0 and higher.so, u can also degrade the same because you have got V14
regds,

Thanks Gents.
I have already done what you have said just in a slightly different manner as I have a UC520. I'm confident the UC520 is ok as handsets with older firmware upgrade to 8-5-2S. (tested on 7942).
The 7942 are V14, I'm reading this from the reverse of the handset, is that correct? (PID VID CP-7942G V14 & PID VID CP-7965G V11)
I've included some snippets of my running config. They initially look as if they will downgrade and then boot with the version 9??
Any help apprecited as i am stuck!
Thanks
Russell

Find below the TFTP events from each handset. The 7965 does not reboot and attempt to upgrade where the 7942 does.

Hi
Managed to downgrdae the 7965. This was done by deleting CTL files within the trust list within the security section.
However the same does not apply for the 7942/ 7962, these phones do not have CTL files installed and continue to attempt to downgrade and then fail.
Thanks
