I have 8 VoIP offices - All pretty much identicle. In one particular office, when a user is on a call with an outside line, and then he presses the Conf button or the tranfer button to either conference in another party or transfer the call to another party, it is dropping the original caller. Under normal circumstances, when the user presses conf or transfer, they should get dial-tone and the option to dial the new number. Randomly, sometimes times when the press either of the two buttons they get dead air and lose the first call. Any ideas? Thanks

Are you using call manager or call manager express?

We are using CallManager 4.2(3). For this problem office, we are using a Cisco 2800 router with 4 FXS ports hooked to 4 PSTN lines.

Did this user ever successful of either conferencing or transfering. By the fact that when he presses conference softkey if he is not able to hear the dial-tone, it could be the reason, there are not multiple calls allowed for the DN. Can you check what is the setting of "Maximum number of calls" under the directory number settings?

This problem is sporadic. Sometimes both transfer and conference functions work, other times it drops the caller.
The maximum number of calls for the extensions are 4.

are you using MGCP or H323?
If H323 do the phones have access to the MTP?
i'd say you would need to get a set of detailed CCM traces to troubleshoot this issue.
