DRS Restore in Lab Environment

I have taken a DRS backup of my production CUCM's (PUB and SUB) and am attempting to restore on servers in my Lab.  the servers in the lab are built to the same exact version, IP and name as my production servers.  when I try a DRS restore I get as far as 29% and it seems to hang  at the CCMDB stage for the publisher.  the specific task under CCMDB says "Subscriber" node starting and sits forever.  I let it go overnight with no change.  any ideas on what I'm missing?  My lab has DNS, NTP, etc.

Okay you don't seem to have mentioned the exact callmanger version .

However DRS documentation  clearly states to fresh install a subscriber

after restore is done on the publisher. It seems that in this case

subscriber was fresh installed first and then publisher was DRS

restored.

It looks like you haven't followed the above doc.

Hope this helps!

The version of CUCM is v8.5(1).  the DRS doc that i had found stated that the pub and sub could be restored at the same time,  I will try just the Pub and remove my sub from my lab config to see if that helps.

ok let us know how it goes.

Hi,

As far as I know , u need to have same number of servers while doing restorei.e. if the backup was taken with one pub and one sub, then, u need to have one pub and one sub while restore as well.

that is what I originally thought, so back to my original issue, why is my restore hanging at the point I specified?

thanks,

Do you have DRF local and master running on SUB under network services?

Hi,

Hope the subscriber u have built in LAB has reachability from PUB, SUB credentials  have been added to PUB.

Sub was added to the Pub and then installed.  Db Replication is normal between the PUB and SUB.

Issue turned out to be that I installed the subscriber on the LAB publisher before the DRS restore.  the SUB can't exist in the LAB Publisher prior to the restore becasue DRS creates the subscriber instance.

thanks to everyone for their input.

So Karthik was correct.

Yes Karthik was correct, but I found DRS documentation newer than v5 that stated both the subscriber and publisher could be restored at the same time.

thanks!

DRS Restore in Lab Environment

Hey folks,

The documentation is somewhat confusing as to whether this would

be considered a Cluster replacement as described here;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/install/8_5_1/cluster/clstr851.html#wp87717

Or a Cluster restore in which Jeff's reference should be fully applicable. In the restore

documentation for CUCM 8.5 there is this clip;

Note

You  can restore the whole cluster as a single operation after you rebuild  the publisher server and the subscriber servers, or to revert to a known  good configuration. You do not need to restore the first node and the  subsequent nodes in two separate operations.

In a Cluster replacement the operation is done in two steps with the PUB done first

followed by Subs, TFTP, MOH servers done in parallel in the second phase.

Maybe this operation is considered more of a Cluster replacement than a Cluster restore

but the documentation is somewhat ambiguous to say the least

Cheers!

Rob
