One of the DSP modules within our Cisco voice gateway is resetting which in turn is causing the 0/0/0 pri interface to flap therefore cutting off live calls. There is a bug out there (CSCtj71414) whic causes this problem however the bug seems to affect Cisco 2921 routers yet ours is a 2821. Also our router has another PVDM2 module within it and this module is not resetting.
A Cisco VoIP gateway may intermittently display a syslog message "%C5510-1-NO_RING_DESCRIPTORS: No more ring descriptors available".
A Cisco VoIP gateway with 5510 based DSPs may display this message for a couple of reasons. The most common reason is that the DSP in question has become unresponsive and will automatically be restarted. If this occurs, in the same log with the NO_RING_DESCRIPTORS error will be a DSPRM-5-UPDOWN message as shown here:
---- Jun 4 18:48:08.013: %C5510-1-NO_RING_DESCRIPTORS: No more ring descriptors avai lable on slot 0 dsp 3. Jun 4 18:48:26.069: %DSPRM-5-UPDOWN: DSP 3 in slot 0, changed state to up ----
The appropriate steps in troubleshooting the DSP crash will need to be taken. This bug report is to track issues where C5510-1-NO_RING_DESCRIPTORS are seen but no DSP crash is observed. When this occurs, no noticeable impact to the voice calls is noticed as a result but currently the only way this has been shown to occur has been on networks with very significant jitter.
Set the appropriate monitoring of the RTP traffic streams to ensure that there are no significant impairments present on the network.
