E1 COnfiguration of differnt Service Provider in same WIC Slot

Hi All - WE have VG with WIC Card E1/T1 with two slots (0/0/0 and 0/0/1) and we are planning to configure ISDN PRI Line (E1 - CCS) from two different service provider.

Is that possible to configure  two different service provider in the same WIC Module which has two slots, Since DSP card of the Module will sync with two different time? will it cause clock slip on the VG.

Hi Siva,If you use the below

Hi Siva,

If you use the below command then that can be achieved.

clock source line independent

 Please see below for reference:

Hi, This will cause problems

Hi,

This will cause problems for sure as we cannot take clock from 2 sources on the same T1/E1 card.

It will certainly lead on slip and error seconds on the router.

Thanks

Hi Jan and DJ - Thanks for

Hi Jan and DJ - Thanks for your response, In this case it is not possible to make such configuration to work. If so what is the alternate solution without going for different WIC slot.

Thanks,

Siva

Hi Siva, All right. And why

Hi Siva,

All right. And why is not possible to configure both E1/T1s and what kind of problem did you see ?

cheers,

Jan

Hi Jan - We are  in Design

Hi Jan - We are  in Design Phase before going for implemetation i just want to makesure if its possible to have two different Service Provider in the same WIC slot where it shouldnot run in to any problem like clock slip etc..

Thanks,

Siva

Hi Siva, There wil be slip

Hi Siva,

There wil be slip and error seconds on the setup as the backplane can only take clock from one of the line (source) at a time.

This will lead to sync issues.

There is no alternate way for this and also slip errors may lead to problems like audio quality, delay etc.

Thanks

Hi Siva & DJ, Possible you're

Hi Siva & DJ,

Possible you're a bit _too_ paranoia about the synchronisation. As written before: if you have tons and tons of slip secs, you might have a problem with voice quality over the E1/T1 but that would mean that the TSP has a problem in the first place. Their clocks don't drift that much unless they take their clock from an obscure source. If you have a couple of slip secs, you will not even notice.

The below snippit is from a production router, running 46 weeks in a row, E1 0/0/0 and 0/0/1 run the same WIC  and take their clock from 2 different service providers:

#sho control E1 | i (up|down|Desc|Slip)
E1 0/0/0 is up.
  Description: towards SPA 1
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,
E1 0/0/1 is up.
  Description: towards SPB 1
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,
E1 0/1/0 is up.
  Description: towards SPB 2
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins
0 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins,

[..]

WIC Slot 0:
        VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 - 2-Port RJ-48 Multiflex Trunk - T1/E1
        Hardware Revision        : 0.0
Top Assy. Part Number    : 800-22629-05
        Board Revision           : C0
        Deviation Number         : 0
        Fab Version              : 04
        PCB Serial Number        : <removed>
        RMA Test History         : 00
        RMA Number               : 0-0-0-0
        RMA History              : 00
        Product (FRU) Number     : VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1

These 3 E1's carry around 200 voice calls per hour without problem. I wouldn't worry too much

cheers,

Hi, Yes, you're correct that

Hi,

Yes, you're correct that it _might_ lead to clock slip errors but that does not mean that the configuration/set-up wil not work!
In the end if the voice gateway has two E1 connections on one WIC or different WICs or different NMs, it will need to synchronise it's clock to one. And thus the "danger" of clock slips is always existent when two or more E1/T1s are being used. That being written, don't forget that service providers usually synchronise their clock from a reliable source:
they're sort of foreced to do so when they interconnect...
Although, you might see some slip seconds it should not stop your from using such a configuration. If the amount of clock slip seconds is astronomically high, the service provider has problem, don't you think so?
