I checked and i found that my VM had two 80 GB disks and are located at 0:0 and 0:1 !
PS : Direct install of CUCM 8.0 (not 8.5) success. but I have to do an upgrade of my CUCM 6.1(4) to 8.0 or 8.5 !
Can you please help ?
Thanks in advance.
FYI, that upgrade path is not supported.
We officially support only from 8.0(2)+ on ESXi.
You're supposed to use an MCS server and upgrade to at least 8.0(2) there to then do a DRS backup and restore on VM. Then you can keep upgrading.
If this helps, please rate
The issue was finally resolved ! it took me much time but finally resolved
From 6.14SU2 installed on ESXi i had to configure an External NTP server in CUCM configuration, then I had to upgrade to CUCM 7.1.5 (CUCM 22.214.171.124900-10). Once CUCM 7.1(5) installed, I was able to upgrade to CUCM 8.5.
So the the intermediate upgrade to CUCM 7.1(5) did solve the issue.
Hi Mohamed, same issue for me.
I need to migrate virtualized VMware ESX cucm 126.96.36.1990-3 to 8.6.1.
Direct Upgrade fail with your error, and intermediate upgrade using CUCM 188.8.131.52900-10 fail with unkown error!
Can you help me?
Thank you very much!
Is this a lab upgrade ? Please note that the upgrade from 6.X to 8.6 is not supported on virtualized environement
did you try to upgrade to CUCM 7.0 from 6.1 ? I highly recommand to configure an external NTP server on CUCM because the upgrade from 6.1 to 7.X fails if you didn't configure the external NTP server.
Please try to upgrade to 7.0 and let's see the result. ok?
Hi Mohamed, yes i temporary server. I need it to migrate from Phisical Hardware 6.1.4 to VMware 8.6, but I've only one Publisher server, so I don't want to shutdown my only production server for hours during upgrade.
So I do a fresh install of 6.1.4 and I've imported using disaster recovery the original database.
I would upgrade to 8.6.1 so I can export DB to re-import in the final production CUCM 8.6.1 on VMware
I wil try again and let you know!
Thank you for your answer.
What hardware are you using for 6.1.4 ? if it is supported for 8.6 you can upload the 8.6 upgrade and install it on the hardware, and then switch to version 8.6 on offhours. What do you think ? the switch version takes about 30 to 35 minutes. You can do it After 18h.

I think there is not enought memory! What do you think?
Yes indeed, u need more RAM !
Please check the link for hardware requirements for CUCM 8.6 : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6790/ps5748/ps378/prod_brochure0900aecd8062a4f9.html
I think that if u will upgradde to CUCM 8.6 on non UCS servers, u won't have the support of Cisco TAC. But i have made the upgrade on Dell and ESXi and till now no issues. but u need to know that Cisco will not support u in case of issue.
But it is always a good idea to upgrade to 8.6 on ESXi servers, by this way u can save snapshots of ur CUCM and restore them in case of issues.
