Fax Help in Receiving fax by transfer from ip phone.

I would like to have one External phone number (DID) assingned to My ip phone and when i answer if heard that is a fax i would like to transfer to my fax machine connected to ATA186. Is this possible? Fax receiveing will work ?

Any suggestions?

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. I say give it a try!

Make sure you do a quick blind transfer so that the incoming fax doesn't hear things like music on hold or other tones that could potentially confuse it.

That said, is there any reason you wouldn't just have a 2nd DID and point it direct to the ATA extension that has the fax machine?

I didn't have enough DID's to use one for ip phone and another to FAX.
