Forcing custom background images on IP Phones.

Hello guys,

After uploading custom images on IP Phones through Call Manager, is there any way we can force that image to be the background image, unless we go to the phones and manually select it.

Not really - it's just up to the user to select from the background image list.

If you want to 'push' out images, there are third party applications that can do it.

Yes there is a way,

Prepare your images ready for upload and upload the image with the name of the default background image; this will essentially replace the current background image.

Then, reset the device pool that your phones are a member of - and hey presto - it should work. This will force the phones to redownload tftp info.

We did something similar, but used the manual selection process instead.

remember, you can re-upload the original image under a seperate name and have it as a fallback if need be.

Also, you can test with a couple of phones first by putting them into a seperate device pool or resetting them indiviually.

Lastly, just a quick note, from testing we learned that the thumbnails that are shown under the phone preferences are downloaded from the cucm server - though the currently selected image is kept as a local copy.

If this is the correct answer, can you please let me know?

Kind regards
