FXS card and E1/T1 multiflex

I want to know exactly in a IP Telehony configurations, when do we use FXS card and when do we use E1 trunk card. i'm confused !

FXO cards are for regular analog phone lines, while E1/T1 trunk cards are for digital ISDN PRI trunks.
