Group Message

We have Unity Connection 2.1.1

Is there a way for a user to send a message to a group of people, where that user can select the group of people they want to send the message to instead of all the users on the Unity Connection Voice Mail System.

Yes Its Possible.

System distribution lists are used to send voice messages to multiple users. The users that are members of a system distribution list typically are users who need the same information on a regular basis, such as employees in a department or members of a team. The class of service that is associated with each user account dictates whether users can send messages to system distribution lists in Cisco Unity Connection.

Continued..

You can create your distribution list as per you requirement and assign members to each group.

You can send voice messages to Cisco Unity Connection users, and to private and system distribution lists. Connection sends your message to the intended recipients without ringing their extensions.

You can address a message to more than one recipient or list. Depending on the input style you are using, you address a message either by saying the name of a Connection user or distribution list, or by using the phone keypad to spell the name of the user or list, or to enter the extension or list number.

Step 1 Log on to Cisco Unity Connection using your phone.

Step 2 Press 2.

Step 3 Record your message at the tone. Use the following keys as you record:

Key Action

8 Pause or resume

# End recording

Step 4 When you are finished recording, press #.

Step 5 Follow the prompts to address your message. Press # # to switch between spelling and number entry.

Step 6 Press # to confirm the recipient.

Step 7 Press 1 to add another name or list.

Or

Press # to send the message.

I know the method you described above on sending a message. The problem is if you have 40 people you want to send a message to and have to enter their name or extension and then # that is very time consuming. It would be nice to have entered in the 40 people under say distribution list "1234" and be able to send a message to all 40 people by simply entering 1234.

How many users can I add to a Distribution List?

We use Unity Connection(UC 2.1.1) for all of our voice mail. The user that wants to send the message to a distribution list is using an Avaya Phone in which you can not change the COS via the Call Manager(6.1.0).

Hi Bill,

I think the COS is referencing the Unity Connection User COS;

Private Distribution Lists

COS settings allow you to specify the maximum number of lists that are available to users, and the maximum number of members that users can add to each list when they use the Connection conversation or the Cisco Unity Assistant to manage their lists.

Maximum Number of Private Lists Available to Users

You can set the maximum number of lists-up to 99-available to each user who is associated with the COS.

To Change the Maximum Number of Private Lists Available to COS Members

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, find the COS that you want to change, or create a new one.

Step 2 On the Edit Class of Service page, under Private Distribution Lists, enter a number from 1 to 99 in the Maximum Lists Per User field.

Step 3 Click Save.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maximum Number of Members Per Private List

Do the following procedure to specify the maximum number of members-up to 999-that users who are associated with a COS can add to a private list.

To Manage a Private Distribution List for an Individual User Account

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, find the user account for which you want to change private distribution list settings.

Step 2 On the Edit menu, click Private Distribution List. (This will launch the Cisco Unity Assistant web tool for the user.)

Step 3 On the Private List page, click the applicable icon to create a new list or change an existing one. See Help for detailed procedures for creating a private list, changing the name of a private list, changing members of a private list, and deleting a private list.

Step 4 Click Save.
