H323 GW intermittently transmits ISDN resource unavailable

I have an H323 voice GW which connected to the PSTN via a T-1 PRI. Intermittently, callers from the IP telephony network receive re-order tone when dialing out.

Debug ISDN q931 indicates GW sending to PSTN that network resources are unavailable:

ISDN Se0/1/0:23 Q931: TX -> DISCONNECT pd = 8 callref = 0x1AFE

Cause i = 0x80AF - Resource unavailable, unspecified

"Show isdn serv" indicates all B channels are in service. Sometimes when this happens, there are only 3 active calls, other times there are 5 or 6 active calls.

Are there any ideas? I appreciate any input! Thanks.

Mike.

Hi,

How is your DSP utilisation and capacity?

Possibly turn on some DSP debugs?

Cheers,

Tim.

Tim,

I do have sufficient DSPs to support/build the 24 ds0 channels and all the physical interfaces in the router. I am not doing any transcoding, CFR or MTPs. Therefore, I thought if I had sufficient DSPs to support my hardware interfaces and all DS0s on my PRI, DSPs would not be an issue. I will try some DSP debugs though. Thanks.

Mike.

All B channels in use with only 3 active calls is a positive sign of trouble, possibly independent of DSP issue, one would need to collect debug isdn 1931 and some call debug to see why the channels are not released, before attempting dialing out.

Below is the entire ISDN Q931 debug:

If I hang up and immediately call again, it goes through.

Yes, as you capture the inconsistency in the channels used, that is something the tac has to look at. I would check the IOS to be at latest maintenance, and upgrade for completeness if needed.

Thanks Paolo for the input. I'll do a TAC ticket. Thanks again. Mike.

Do you have any updates to this issue? I have the same problem.

Well, that in itself is interesting! To answer your question..no. We are running 12.4(9)T1 in this GW and a couple others but this is the only one having the issue. I do have a case open with TAC and am running with it. We are in the debug/CCM trace stage and will keep you aprised of the situation.

Have you got a case id? I'm facing this problem in remote branches with h323-fast start enabled.

Hi

Do you resolve the issue Cause i = 0x80AF - Resource unavailable, unspecified?.

Because I'm facing the same problem.

What I see, that this happens just to mobile phone numbers.

Regards

Peter

Some things to check:

'show voice dsp group all'

At the bottom, it will show 'DSP Allocation Failures:'

If this is a number higher than 0, you do not have enough DSPs.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of odd situations that cause this error message and it becomes hard to distinctly classify them. Sometimes it's a lack of MTP/transcoding resources, codec problems, DSP allocation problems, bad DSPs, bad voice ports, and some other problems.

It is very important that you note that you are TX -> the Disconnect with Resource Unavailable as it is common to receive this error message as well from PBXs and providers.
