Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

Hi all,

I have a weird Ad-Hoc conference call issue here. Hope you can help.

(This issue just happened recently, no new changes.......)

Issue is :

Initiator  A is on the phone with user B,   now A would like to make conference  call with user C who is located in one of the remote site.

press  the button "Conference"  ---> dial the remote site's extension  --> press "conf " button again, the call between A and user C drops.

IPT system:

CCM 4.1(3), voice gateway running MGCP

1 Head Office, 4 remote site,

Other testings I made:

The initiator is in head  office.

  • . between head office  and international : No issue.
  • . between head office and remote site:  Have issues

The initiator is in remote  site.

  • . between remote site  and head office: No issue
  • . In 1 conference call,  the maximum number of  participants is  6

already checked DSP resources on head office & remote site voice gateways, they all look fine.

Any thoughts?    Thank you for your reply.

Re: Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

You can try a no sccp/sccp in the GW, maybe a reload from the GW. Otherwise check your config to make sure it's correct.

I cannot tell you what resources you will use as I don't know your configuration, the phone that  presses conference is the one that determines that via the MRGL configuration.

It will look for available CFB and will use one from the MRG, if not, will hunt thru all MRG until it founds one, or rejects the conference if none available.

Do they all use the same CFB???

To me that sounds like codec issues, G729 from remote office and you're using the SW CFB from main office.

Re: Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

thanks for your reply Java.

Each site has their own Media Resource Group and Media Resource Group list.

The CCM server and any services haven't been restarted yet......

Codec issue....  Can you shed some lights?.....

Re: Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

The SW CFB from CUCM can only handle G711, most common scenario is that you use G729 over WAN.

If there is no XCODER, the conference fails.

That would be the 1st thing to check. Regions between phones and SW CFB if that's what you're using.

Re: Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

You are right, Java. . G.729 over WAN... G711 within 1 Region.

Just found sth. on Conference Brides web page:

. The head office voice gateway CFB (Cisco IOS Conference Bridge) status shows" unknown" ( I tried to reset, still the same)
. The remote site voice gateway CFB (Cisco IOS Conference Bridge) status shows VGW's IP address.

I am not sure what they showed before this issue happened.   Any idea? Maybe reboot the server?

BTW, in the following scenario as mentioned, what resource will be in used?

Initiator  A is on the phone with user B,   now A would like to make conference
call with user C who is located in one of the remote site.

Thanks again for your reply/comment.

Re: Head office to remote site Ad-Hoc conference call issue

It is working now.....

I can't imagine how it worked previosly, as conference bridge & transocder (head office voice gateway) configuration on CCM are wrong !

I have to reconfigure them and make sure they are registered with CCM.

thank for the hint, Java...
