How to check if Vic2-2FXS is function ok

I just installed a Vic2-2FXS in a 2811.

Installed it in Slot 3.

My 2801 Runs :

Cisco IOS Software, 2801 Software (C2801-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(9)T

A show ver shows :

Cisco 2801 (revision 6.0) with 236544K/25600K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FCZ1049120M

2 FastEthernet interfaces

4 ISDN Basic Rate interfaces

1 terminal line

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

2 Voice FXS interfaces

1 DSP, 4 Voice resources

1 cisco service engine(s)

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled.

191K bytes of NVRAM.

62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

So I have 2 FXS ports.

But the in use lights on the VIC2 are lid continously.

And I don't see a FXS interface in my config. (Like a BRI interface)

Nor do I see any voiceport being added.

Does this mean that the VIC is broken, or do need to do any manual configuration to get this to work.

I am not able to do add them as a Voice-port or dial-peer voice pots port 0/3/0

So I'm kinda in the blue.

Can't find any propper configuration example how to deal with this, so any help would be great !

thanks !

Hi,

you do not have enough DSP resource due to the BRI ports already present.

You will need to upgrade your PVDM2-8 to -16 at least, or add another PVDM2 module.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Thanks that's it !

I just pulled out one of the 2 VIC2-2BRI and now I finde 2 Voice-ports in slot 3 in my config.

So that's my problem.

Do you have any idea where I can find some detailed configuration on configuring the FXS ports ?

Thanks for helping me out this fast !

Hi,

What do you want the FXS port to do, especially ?

Usually it doesn't need any configuration beside "cptone XX" and "timeout interdigit".

Thanks for the nice rating and good luck!

I want to use it to connect a stamp machine (modem ) and a fax, as I have big problems connecting them to the the phone network with ATA's

So I want to connect those 2 devices to the FXS ports, and the stamp machine only needs to be able to dial out.

The fax machine also needs to receive faxes so needs to answer incomming calls.

As i'am not in the US but in Swiss, I think I cannot rely on the "default" cisco settings.

So that's why I'm trying to find some examples or detailed documentation.

Hi, no problem, with the FXS port you will be able to do modem and fax.

I suggest you configure "network-clock-participate" and "-select" for the BRI ports, but it may not even be necessary.

To receive fax, just configure a pots DP with the correct destination-pattern and port.

Nothing else is necessary.

I have a similar issue with a franking machine & also dialling out via a modem. If i add an FXS port to my 2801 voice GW, what configuration would i need?

Hi, as mentioned below, no special configuration is necessary.
