How to test ground-start analog lines?

Hello, we have ground-start analog lines connecting into our gateway and believe there is an issue with one of the lines.

Is there any good way to test ground-start analog lines?  With loop-start lines I simply use an analog phone to test if an analog line is either good or bad. What can I do for ground-start lines?

Thank you!

With a buttset. A good one can be expensive.

You have to hook up a buttset then place a ground across the two terminals.

Hi Ryan,

Just to add another hint to the good tips from Paolo and Brian

If you terminate this line on a standard "surface mount " jack (rj11)

that has accessable "spade tip" style terminals and then plug an Analog

phone into the jack, you should be able to touch a ground to the 'Ring" side

of the line while off-hook to pull dialtone.

Cheers!

Rob

Five stars for you too Rob.

I always wanted to own a buttset but never did

Turns out the router has FXS cards in it

I'm sending out FXO cards today.
