Independent Cisco IP phones?

We are working on interOP testing CISCO IP video phones to register through a non Cisco device acting as the call manager (MetaSwitch - IP voice switch).  The only phones I have been successful with doing this are the Cisco SPA series but we are looking to expand to video phones.  Is it possible to use a Cisco 8945 or 9971 model with SIP code on it?  Can someone recommend any cisco IP video phone or is the call manager required in all cases?

Any Cisco Phone that runs SIP "might" be able to register with another PBX that runs SIP as the control protocol. No way to tell what functionality will be available.

There is no testing done by Cisco of this, you would need to get a phone and try.
