I have a problem, calls over an ICT trunk between two CUCM clusters connect but then either party don't hear each other for 4-5 seconds.
Both clusters had two call managers version 8.6.2. The ping response between two clusters is about 550ms.
To reduce the delay, I enabled ‘Outbound FastStart’ and 'Inbound FastStart' on both sides and checked 'Media Termination Point Required'. I configured 8 hardware transcode ressources in Media Resource Group List on both clusters.
With this configuration, I don't have delay anymore but all the calls are in G711 even if I set the 'Codec For Outbound FastStart' to G729.
I really need to use G729 because the link between the two sites is 1Mb.
How can I can do to use G729codec between the 2 sites without delay?
Check the device pool used for the MTPs, I believe that it will be that region that is used for the call over the ICT, not the region of the phone. It might also be phone region to MTP region, but my money is on the first option.
Also you might consider to use software MTPs in IOS instead of expensive DSPs for a XCODER. There are plenty of configuration examples for how to set this up on cisco.com. If you can't find any good one please let me know and I'll dig up some old config and send that to you.

The below trick might come handy when you have to add a new node to a cluster but you don't have or is unsure of the security password for the publisher. This procedure has been around for ages.
