Intercom lines at several phones

mischm

Hi,

is it possible to use an intercom line directly to several phones and not only to one phone.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeinter.html

For example:

At the reception phone there is an intercom line configured. When pressing this intercom button at all specified phones the speaker will be activated and the person at the reception phone can make an announcement to all of the phones at the same time.

Is this possible with an intercom line or is there any other feature to use?

Hi Michael,

There is no "built-in" phone to multi-phone paging support within CUCM. You would need a 3rd party product

Ipcelerate

http://site.ipcelerate.com/t3/index.php/products/ipsession/broadcast-paging

Syn-Apps

Singlewire

Cheers!

Hi Rob,

many thanks for the answer.

Would it also be possible to call with the intercom line instead of a phone a DN of a hunt group in which then several phones are?

Hi Michael,

Sadly not. Intercom is strictly a 1 to 1 relationship here

Cheers!

Hi Rob,

many thanks for your answer. I will have a look at your suggestions / links.

Hi Michael,

My bad! I didn't see your reference to CME as compared to CUCM (which I assumed )

and you know what happens when you assume

Here are the config steps;

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express System Administrator Guide

Configuring Paging

Cheers!

Hi Rob,

many thanks .

That means with configuring paging at CUCM 8.6 I can solve this problem?

It`s a Cisco Callmanager 8.6.2 not a CME.

Hi Michael,

Sorry to be so unclear

This can be done with CME not CUCM. With CUCM you need the 3rd party products.

Cheers!

Rob

Hi Rob,

no problem.

Too bad that there is no way to configure this directly in CUCM 8.6.2 like CME.

I think a 3rd party product we don`t buy only for such a function.

Do you know why this feature "paging" is not available in CUCM and only in CME?

Hi Rob,

sorry it`s me again.

Rgd. this page "https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-4194" it would be possible to configure paging with CUCM and a Cisco router configured as a H.323, or?

We have the CUCM in the Headoffice and in the location where we want to use the audio paging we have as a voicegateway a Cisco 2921 router which is configured as a H.323 gateway at the CUCM.

Is it possible to use paging via this Cisco 2921 router?

Paging

Many sites with an existing  PBX also have a paging system, allowing users to call  an extension on  the PBX that forwards the audio broadcast to overhead  loudspeakers.  This concept is useful in workshops, parking lots, and open plan  areas  where a called party is not near a telephone handset. PBX manufacturers   may provide dedicated line cards that interface with external paging  amplifiers.

The Cisco CallManager needs  the Cisco 2610 router to be configured as an H.323  gateway device. The  extension number for the paging port is defined under the  Cisco  CallManager Route Pattern configuration page, pointing to the Cisco  2610  H.323 gateway.

When the number for  the paging system is dialed, a VoIP call is made between the  IP  handset to the E&M port on the gateway router. The voice port goes  off hook.  This is indicated by the E lead on pin 7 going from open  circuit to closed  circuit (with respect to the ground on pin 8). This  off hook condition activates  the pager system's control input, and the  audio is sent on pins 4 and 5 of the  voice port

Hi Michael

Rob is based in Canada so won't be around for a couple of hours, so I'll try and help out.

The attached article shows how to integrate a 3rd party paging system with CUCM. Some of the 3rd party systems have analog interfaces (E&M or FXS) so need to be attached to a gateway that is H.323 / SIP attached to CUCM so that they can be dialled from an IP Handset. These are commonly used in factory / warehouse environments with roof mounted speakers.

Rob is correct (+5!) and that you need to use a 3rd party system to use paging with CUCM. It's just one of those things that CUCME that CUCM can't. The 3rd party systems break into two different types - those that use the Cisco IP phones to deliver the paging function, and those that rely on external amps / speakers. It's the latter than the article above applies to.

Hi Barry,

many thanks for your answer. I thought it would be possible without 3rd party product
