IP 7965 with SIP protocol

Hello,

I'd like to use 7965 with SIP protocol.

Is there any configuration guide to use with SIP?

If I buy now the phone I need to upgrade the firmware to use SIP?

If yes How to upgrade the firmware to use SIP?

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: IP 7965 with SIP protocol

It is very complicated to use Cisco phones with SIP for third-party systems PBXs or ITSP.

- Cisco doesn't support it, so if doesn't work, you are on your own

- Settings are undocumented and often unclear.

- Many features will not work

- Setting are accessed via TFTP, there is no easy GUI

- You need to access the firmware, but you don't have a support contract to do it

Conclusion: it is better to use something else.

Re: IP 7965 with SIP protocol

As Paulo illuded to, the current Cisco phones have non-standard protocol extensions and a lack of documentation that can make a third-party SIP integration difficult. The only phones that provided pure RFC-based SIP firmware were the original 7940 and 7960 models.

That's not to say it's impossible; there are resources out there that can help you through it such as: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+phone+cisco+79xx
