MCS 7800 / ILO and 2nd NIC CM7

Is ILO only configurable upon startup on the MCS7835 and 7845?

servers are CM7 and Unity 7, if that matters.

Also, how do you set up NIC teaming on a CM7 linux server?

thanks

Hello Pete,

The initial setup of iLO should be done from the BIOS/system-boot and is the only possibility I am aware off.

Hey Pete,

From fellow netpro Stoyan :)

"NIC Teaming for Network Fault Tolerance

The NIC teaming feature allows a server to be connected to the Ethernet via two NICs and, therefore, two cables. NIC teaming prevents network downtime by transferring the workload from the failed port to the working port. NIC teaming cannot be used for load balancing or increasing the interface speed.

Hewlett-Packard server platforms with dual Ethernet network interface cards can support NIC teaming for Network Fault Tolerance with Cisco Unified CM 5.0(1) or later releases.

IBM server platforms with dual Ethernet network interface cards can support NIC teaming for Network Fault Tolerance with Cisco Unified CM 6.1(2) and later releases. "

And the command to do that as per the CUCM OS CLI Reference Guide is:

"set network failover

This command enables and disables Network Fault Tolerance on the Media Convergence Server network interface card.

Command Syntax

failover {enable | disable}

Parameters

•enable enables Network Fault Tolerance.

•disable disables Network Fault Tolerance.

Requirements

Command privilege level: 1

Allowed during upgrade: No "

Hi,

Bringing down and starting up the server is the only to configure ILO. Is this your question.

If so, answer is no. I have tried the below mentioned approach.

1. Note the ILO user name and password.

2. Connect the ILO to a port in switch with dedicated ILO VLAN.

3. Run DHCP for the VLAN in switch or in a windows server with DHCP options.

4. Enable the port and see the dhcp lease.

5. Login to the ILO using ip or DNS name (if enabled).

let me know if this is helpful.
