Media termination point required option in gateway configuration

Hi all,

I am configuring h323 gateway in my CUCM. I don't understand what are the differences between check or uncheck Media Termination Point Required box?

Explaintation in the help is quite short to clarify. Anyone help me to describe this option?

Thanks,

Thuc

Media termination point required option in gateway configuration

Whenever you enable mtp on your gateway/trunk, your media will always be terminated on the mtp device...

Ip phone----rtp--------MTP-----------rtp--------gateway.

Without mtp checked, media will ideally flow directly to the endpoints involved

iPhone-----rtp----gateway.

If you enable mtp and you don't see mtp IP address in your rtp packets, then there is a problem with your mtp resource

You will need to look at cucm traces to see why your mtp was not invoked..

You should not need MTP unless you require things such as outbound fast start or you have DTMF, etc incompatibility.

If this is PSTN GW you will not need it.

Media termination point required option in gateway configuration

Hi Chris,

I tested MTP option with some case below:

Topo : IP Phone ----SCCP---CCM--H323--GW---E1 PRI----PSTN

- Case 1: Tested MTP required checked box with CCM version 4.1. I captured RTP packets and see that : Source/destination IP Address of the RTP packet are IP Phone and CCM Ip address.

- Case 2: Tested MTP required checked box with CCM version 7.0 (1). I captured RTP packets and see that : Source/destination IP Address of the RTP packet are IP Phone and GW Ip address.

- Case 3 : Tested MTP required checked box with CCM version 7.0 (1) and I used MTP resource from IOS router for the GW configuration. I captured RTP packets and see that : Source/destination IP Address of the RTP packet are IP Phone and IOS Router Ip address.

Could you clarify for me?

Media termination point required option in gateway configuration

Hi

My configuration are below:

- Start service : Cisco IP Voice Media Streaming App

- Add media resource group with MTP (CCM) selected--> add media resource list

- In GW configuration, select Media Resource List which is created before. Enable  Media Termination Point Required option

- Reset GW

- Make call via GW and capture rtp packets by using span to pc IP Phone option (wireshark).

I see that rtp packet between Ip Phone (not CCM) and GW.

Please correct for me?

Thank you so much,

After troubleshooting, I see that region setting of the MTP is missmath codec with the GW configuration setting. That's why the mtp is not invoked.
