Migration from CCM 6.1.2 to CCM 7.1

I have cluster of 2 CCM ver 6.1.2 ( One publisher + backup  TFTP and One subscriber + primary TFTP )

And we replacing it with cluster of 3 new servers with  CCM ver 7.1

Also i have one Unity 5 and want to replace it with Unity Cluster ( 2 new servers )  with Unity 7

What is the best migration strategy ?

Here is my thoughts  - may be someone have some advises

1) backup existing publisher CCM 6.1.2 with DRS-> to any TFTP

2) Install 6.1.2 on new server ( publisher + backup TFTP) - use the same IP address ( but doing it in isolated IP lab network )

3) Install 6.1.2 on new server ( subscriber + TFTP )

4) Install 6.1.2 on new server ( backup subscriber + TFP)

5) upload re-host licenses ( with new MACs ) to all 3 new modes( i'm not very familiar with all licenses procedures )

6) MIgrate all data  - restore with DRS to new publisher from TFTP  ( from step 1)

7) Swap all servers ( disconnect old servers from current network - and connect all 3 servers to existing network )

8) check that phones and Unity 5 works well

Now when we have all CCM on new servers - go to upgrade itself

9) Upgrade new publisher to 7.1  (inactive partition)

10) Upgrade  new subscriber to 7.1 (inactive partition)

11) Upgrade new backup subscriber to 7.1 (inactive partition)

12) Switch partition on new Publisher with 7.1 installed

13) Check for phones and Unity ( i believe phones has to be re-registered to new Publisher and upgrade firmware from Publisher TFTP ? )

14 ) Check Unity - if everything is good - switch partitions on both subscribers ( to new 7.1 )

15 ) Check for phones to reregister to subscriber

When this part done - i can think about Unity upgrade to version 7 - but it can be done as separated project ( CCM 7.1  has to work fine with existing old unity 5 )

Anything else - or order of operations are not good ?

Thanks to everyone in advance for any sugesstions

In my opinion I think you may be doing a few extra steps in the interim with the subscribers.

I would try something similar:

1.       Backup existing pub 6.1.2 with DRS

2.       Install 6.1.2 on new server in a isolated lab

3.       Restore Data – Re-home Licenses (whichever comes first)

4.       Upgrade 6.1.2 to 7.1 on just this publisher

5.       Then Load 2 Subscribers new install with 7.1 still in isolated lab

6.       Patch all to the latest

7.       Go Live by swapping equipment (yes phones will more than likely upgrade firmware)

Note: Unity compatibility, check the TSP version.  Should be good though.

Other things I always ask about when upgrading.  Does the system have any 3rd party software that ties into the Call Manager that my need a JTAPI update perhaps.  I.E.. Recording, Paging, CDR Billing.

That is just my two cents anyway...
