Music On Hold Question

DAVE GENTON

Adding 7 cd tracks to cucm for customer, got them loaded and translated and giving them a stream number. When I assign this and check the box for "Play continuously (repeat)" does that mean , at that time, all 7 will start streaming simultaneously, even when idle ?? Mcast is not an option here, but curious as to how the streaming media app works on cucm.

thanks in advance,

dave

multicast streams all the time

unicast streams only when you put someone on hold by pressing hold, conference, transfer, etc.

play continuously means that if you put the guy on hold 5 minutes and the stream is 3 minutes he'll hear the same stuff 2 minutes again.

unicast plays the stream only when instructed because it tears a connection and creates a new one to the MOH server, if you have 7 streams but no one is no hold then no streams are used.

Hello,

The "Play continuously" box only references the stream in question, and means that once the track is finished, it will start over from the beginning. All 7 tracks will not play at the same time, only the MOH file that is assigned to the device that initiated the hold.

Hope that helped, if so please rate.

Agreed, and thank you. However, if ALL 7 seven assigned a stream (configured) on the audio source page, do they all start ? sounds like they do, regardless of you going on to the next step and assign a stream number to a device or a line. Point being, maybe only 4 stream will be assigned to a device pool or lines, etc. but 7 are configured and assigned a stream number, do all 7 still stream non stop around the clock ?? sounds like yes they do, they are streaming music even while not a single device is on hold anywhere ?? Make sense .

Im not 100% sure on whether or not the streams play even when no calls are on hold, or whether or not the stream starts when hold is invoked.

Sounds like sniffer time !!

Thanks for the clarification Java!! 5 points for you.

you're welcome as a side note that's the reason why when you have multicast a caller can start hearing the middle of the stream because since it's streaming all the time you just happened to put someone on hold at that point of the moh stream

on the other hand since unicast create a new stream every time you put someone on hold they hear the moh always from the beginning.

Makes perfect sense, thanks ! I suppose since a unicast needs a source and destination address I should have used my brain and thought about that one :) Your clarification put it all where it needs to be.
