need help remotely changing the general mailbox alternate greeting

I have recently been hired by a company that has a Cisco IP Phone system model 7941. Suddenly I have been named the system administrator and I have never performed such a task. The phone is set up and working but I need to know how I can enter the system from my home in order to change the greeting message when a snow storm occurs or there is an emergency closing of the company.I would greatly appreciate any advice or help anyone can give me....

Here are a couple good places to start.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/user/guide/assistant/7xcucugasst080.html

You will also need to let us know what version Unity you are using, (Unity Connection or Unity)

This is a search function just for Unity and Unity Connection:

http://ciscounitytools.com/Search/Search.html

Changing an alternate greeting can as easy as logging into the mailbox from the phone and listing to the prompts to changing the Primary greeting to your alternate greeting, then recording the message for caller to hear.

Hi Gail,

The steps with CUE (Cisco Unity Express) are quite different

Here's a clip;

GDM Access and Login

A GDM is associated with a group profile in the Cisco Unity Express configuration and does not have a login user ID or a PIN associated. Members of the group gain access to the GDM by logging into their personal mailboxes first (where individual User ID and PIN authentication checks are done) and then following a voice menu choice that allows them to access specific group mailboxes—for groups to which they belong. Employees who are not members of the group cannot access the GDM.

So you will need to be added as a member or Owner of the GDM before you can access the mailbox settings

to change the Greetings.

Cheers!

Rob

Hello,

When you get into your voicemail box(locally/remotely) and if you have rights to access to GDM , press 9 to get into the GDM box, then you should have an option to re-record the GDM greeting.

Hope this helps !!!

Cheers !!!

Hi.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  We use Unity Express Version 3.2. I can easily change my own personal message, even remotely from my cell phone. The difficulty that I am having is in changing the message on the company's general mailbox. Our phone opens immediately into the greeting and message menu. I do not know how to get past the message into the administrator's menu so that I can change the message to the alternate message that would let someone calling into our main line know that we are closed due to snow by using my cellphone or homephone..

I GOT IT!!!!!! Thanks to everyone who helped me. TCat for identifying that I needed to know what kind of connection I was using and Rob for putting me in touch with the correct manual. In the end I learned not only h ow to access th e general delivery mailbox but the main mailbox so that I can change that address remotely, too. This was HUGELY helpful in making sure that I can access the system at all times.

Hurray! That’s great! Glad the forums could help you out. As always, we are usually here to answer future questions.

I am new to this but really apprecaite how tuned in you all are! Thanks SO much.
