I am looking at the Cisco supported hardware page and noticed the following server "HP DL320-G5 Server with Intel 3050 Xeon 2.13-GHz Processor" does not require a hardware RAID controller. Is this correct? Does 2000.4.5 or CUCM 6.x support software raid now?
Does anyone know if I put a hardware RAID controller in it, will it be supported by Cisco?
Thanks,
Glenn

You can only use the MCS servers. All MCS servers have RAID 0+1 built into them. (mirrored drives) The lower end models do not have hot swappable drives.
I dont think TAC will support it if you put in a RAID controller. CUCM 6.x and the Cisco OS (IPCC, etc) are pre-built with the MCS configuration platforms on the disk to support the hardware from factory.

I should be able to use the HP equivalent and still have it supported. My question is that I do not see a RAID controller in the parts list.
Thanks,

You actually have to pull up each server and take a look.
for example, the 7845 H2. (high end MCS)
has a controller in it.
I would check with the Cisco before assuming you can use any HP hardware. If it's not Cisco MCS servers, then it might not be supported.
Thanks

Perhaps I'm not understanding something somewhere. I'm not trying to use any HP server. I'm looking at the Cisco Specs for an HP equivalent server:
Table 1. Hardware Configuration Requirements for HP DL320-G5 if ordered directly from HP
Contact HP for specific power supply and power cord options.
Quantity
HP Part Number
Description
1
415405-B21
HP DL320G5 MOD-FX Svr
1
419400-L21
HP DL320G5 Xeon 3050 FIO Kit
2

HP 1GB UB PC2-5300 1x1GB KIT ALL

HP 160GB 1" 7.2K SATA 1yr Wty HDD

HP DL320G3/G4 DVD-ROM Drive OPT
Approved HP servers are supported by Cisco. The only difference is that the hardware is not covered by Smart Net.
Unless I'm mistaken, there is no RAID controller listed here.
Thanks,
Glenn
