I am using Call Manager 4.2 and for one of my users i already have a user profile and device profile in Call manager. I need to replace his Cisco 7940 with 7960 IP phone. Do i need to create a new device profile for the 7960 and Associate his exisitng user profile with new 7960 device profile? any more instructions?

No, the process is just the same if you're going to create specific UDPs per user instead of using default device profiles

You should be able to leave the users profile and UDP in place and just create a new profile for that phone through the menus Device>Phone>Add New.
