New project with CUCM 8

Hello,

I’m working for one Voice project and would like to ask some technical questions. Please kindly advice if you have any ideas.

We have two offices, A and B.

A is like a HQ and using CUCM 8 with ISDN 10.

B is a branch office and they are using normal PABX Phone system (like Panasonic). They have 5 analog phone lines. They are using key system.

Customer wants us to implement office B as a part of office A, main office. Here’re my questions that I’m not quite clear.

  1. How Office B connect to HQ office A?
  2. If can, will they get DID numbers for 5 analog lines after connection to HQ CUCM?
  3. Do we need to apply for WAN Link? Like MPLS Link or Lease Line..
  4. Do we need to configure for SRST for Office B?

Your additional comments and advices would be really appreciated.

Thank you All !

Sincerely,

Andrew

Re: New project with CUCM 8

Hi Andrew,

Your best place to start with these type of Design questions is likely with

the CUCM SRND. The Deployment Model section below should answer your

questions

Multisite with Centralized Call Processing

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/models.html#wp1043616

Here we go;

  1. How Office B connect to HQ office A? You will need IP WAN connectivity
  2. If can, will they get DID numbers for 5 analog lines after connection to HQ CUCM? You would likely use DID's
  3. Do we need to apply for WAN Link? Like MPLS Link or Lease Line.. Yes
  4. Do we need to configure for SRST for Office B? Yes, you will want SRST or CME as SRST in case of WAN failure

Hope this helps get you started!

Cheers!

Rob

Re: New project with CUCM 8

Hi Rob,

This will be my very first CUCM project but I had experience on CUCME and CUE.

When I study CIPT1, there are much difference between CUCME and CUCM.

Could you please guide/share me some basic configuration about how to configure CUCM Business Edition?

Very much appreciate your help!

Sincerely,

Andrew

Re: New project with CUCM 8

Hi Andrew,

It's great that you already have some good knowledge here

Like you nicely noted, CUCM-BE is completely different than CME

and CUE but some of the concepts will carry across quite well. Here are

some excellent new guides;

Overview of Mandatory Tasks for Setting Up a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 8.x Server

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/cucmbe_task_list/8xcucmbetask.html

Installing Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition Release 8.0(1)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucmbe/install/8_0_1/cmins801.html

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Guide for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition, Release 8.0(1)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucmbe/admin/8_0_1/ccmcfg/bccm-801-be.html

Have a look through these to get some general ideas for "getting started"

Cheers!
