No Ringback on Incoming Calls?

Hi

So we have an issue where we get no ringback on incoming calls.

Our provider is asking us to send a 183 Session in Progress with an SDP to initiate ringback.

We currently send a 180 Ringing without SDP but this doesn't seem to initiate ringback on their side.

Is there a way we can configure CUCM or the CUBE to send a 183 with an SDP to initiate ringback?

Thanks

You need to enable early media. Pls refer the below discussion:

You can check under SIP Profile configuration if the field Disable Early Media on 180 is checked or not. If it is then un-check this box.

By default, Cisco Unified Communications Manager signals the calling phone to play local ringback if SDP is not received in the 180 response.

If SDP is included in the 180 response, instead of playing ringback locally, Cisco Unified Communications Manager connects media, and the calling phone plays whatever the called device is sending (such as ringback or busy signal).

If you do not receive ringback, the device to which you are connecting may be including SDP in the 180 response, but it is not sending any media before the 200OK response. In this case, check this check box to play local ringback on the calling phone and connect the media upon receipt of the 200OK response.

Now next step will be make changes on CUBE so that 180 with SDP received can be changed to 183 with SDP.

Enable the voice-class sip send 180 sdp command to map a 180 SDP message to a 180 SDP message. When this command is disabled, an incoming 180 SDP (Ringing) message is mapped to a 183 SDP (Session in Progress) message.

The following example shows how to configure the voice-class sip send 180 sdp command at dial peer level:

Device> enable
Device# configure terminal
Device(config)# dial peer voice
Device(config-dialpeer)# voice-class sip send 180 sdp
Device(config-dialpeer)# exit

So you need to disable this command in order to map 180 SDP (Ringing) message to a 183 SDP (Session in Progress) message.

Hi

Disable Early Media on 180 is unchecked on CUCM for us.

The issue we have is for inbound calls, so if I call from a mobile phone then I hear no ringback on the mobile.

Outbound calls from the Cisco handsets are fine.

Every modern SBC usually supports 180 Ringing message for local ringback tone generation, these days it is like an industry standard.

In case they are asking you to provide 183 Session Progress w/SDP so they expect your device will be sending some custom ringback with rtp media stream? Or they just generate RBT based on 183 message?

Unfortunately there's no way to force CUCM generate 183 Session Progress w/SDP. What you can do is to play with normalization scripts either on CUCM or CUBE to convert outgoing 180 Ringing to 183 Session Progress but it will be without SDP.
