Hi
Suddenly a 7961 stucks in "configuring IP" state and will only register after a power down- power up. I'm running CCM 4.2(3)SR4B. Firmware on the Phone is SCCP41.8-4-4S. The only thing we changed was an upgrade of the phoneload, but we went back to the one I specified before, as we got some other problems.
Regards
Peter

Validate the following on the phone:
IP address, can you ping this address from CM
TFTP option is specified
Look at the phone status page on the phone to look for more clues on the reason

Hi Chris
it's not possible to ping the phone, there is no MAC entry on the switchport and you can't see the phone with cdp.
TFTP is not a problem, because after plug out and plug in the cable it works fine. I will check the status on the phone.
Cheers

We've had this happen on a couple of phones now. I usually try to restore factory defaults first, and if it that doesn't work send the phone in for RMA.
To restore factory defaults (for those that need this):
Power off the phone.
Hold down the '#' button while powering the phone back on.
This part varies depending on model, but keep '#' pressed until programmable buttons start flashing.
Press '123456789*0#'
Phone should reset and attempt to download firmware image again.
