POE Solution

I have a situation where a customer has recently purchased new 3560s, but not POE models. He now wants to put in 50 7960 phones, but without purchasing new switches. What's the best solution here? I have to provide a few hours of power backup, so I want to limit the number of power cords, and I need a solution that works with 7960 (pre-standard PoE).

Hi,

check the following for a discussion on this exact subject, including multiport POE injectors:

http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Cisco+POE

Thanks for the suggestion, however I'm not concerned with converting the pre-standard to IEEE POE, but rather with one that will:

1. Limit the number of Power Cords, so I can easiliy provide power backup.

2. Use the existing 3560 non-POE switches.

I imagine the best solution would be a POE patch panel that supports pre-standard POE. Any opinions or product suggestions?

Hi, as I said the product suggestions are in that thread, I'm not mentioning the brands or models here as this forum is mainly focused on cisco issues.

Hi Aaron/Paolo,

Excellent info Paolo (as always) :) I don't think Cisco will mind if we refer Aaron to the following links (Cisco Partner) be sure to look at the secondary splitter required for the 7960 pre-standard PoE.

PowerDsine 6000 Power over Ethernet Midspan Family

http://www.powerdsine.com/Products/Midspan/PD_6000.asp

Good chart that shows 7960 etc.

Hope this helps!
