Dear All,

We have a global customer who what to know what ware the advantages/disadvantages or benefits of MGCP, H323 and SIP. baysicaly when is recommended to use one over the other one?

I guess that the IP Networkers with lots of real world experience can give us a good info about the above protocols.

Many thanks in advance,

Maddox,

Here is a H323 to MGCP comparison:

MGCP places most of the control in Call Manager with relatively dumb endpoints. This makes for easier configuration, and better tracking of calls (CDR).

H323 and SIP place more intelligence in the endponts, and also provide for higher degree of interoperability with other vendors. Most in the industry agree that SIP will eventually be the dominant protocol.

Dave,

The link you had provided doesn't provide enough info I am looking for.

As you probabily know,

the fundamental difference is that peer-to-peer protocols such as H.323 and SIP tend to scale more gracefully, but client/server protocols such as MGCP are easier to design and maintain.

Also I agree with you, SIP is the future, till then we have to deal with H323 or MGCP.

Maddox
